Our foundation is called Bina Bhakti Lingkungan or in English it means devotion and services for the sake of the environment. We are based in Surabaya and were born in 2010 but legalized in 2017. Our program is Bank Sampah Induk Surabaya (Surabaya Central Waste Bank), which has been known as the biggest waste bank in Surabaya. We currently have 25 employees, 346 drop points to collect waste, and more than 5,500 registered participants.
Our mission is to Build Economic Independence and Sustainable Environmental Welfare through the Waste Bank Program, educate people in terms of managing their waste (such us categorizing and cleaning), and give support to indigent participants in the form of money or skill. With our program we hope the society becomes aware of the importance in protecting the environment especially to not litter. In 2022, We have managed to distribute 427.82 tons of waste to the processing factory with 7,693 transactions having been done. In order to accelerate and multiply our impact, we have collaborated with multi stakeholder such as local and central government, CSR Funds, and other NGOs.
We have plans to enlarge our storage, thus we can accept more waste to serve people’s intention to save money they have got from collecting their waste. Also, we will use it to support our indigent participants, by giving them the skill they need. Other than that, we have a new project to start collecting and processing diaper waste, therefore, we need funds to help build its system.
Transcript: Begining in 2010, we educated society about the importance of treating waste from its source. Bank Sampah Bina Mandiri (Bina Mandiri Waste Bank) which eventually became Surabaya Central Waste Bank, together with all stakeholders, we empower Surabaya citizens through a waste bank program. In 2017, Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia gave us an award as one of the best waste banks in Indonesia. When the Minister herself opened our new storage, we eventually became the central waste bank in Surabaya. Making fast, precise and convenient waste management for society welfare, especially Surabaya citizens is our mission. To help achieve it, we regularly educate people to categorize and clean their waste through a waste bank program, give support to indigent environmental heroes in the form of money as well as the skill they will need. We also pick categorized waste from their neighborhoods, communities, and offices(drop point) then process it professionally. Moreover, we are also building multi stakeholders collaboration for this program so it can accelerate and multiply the impact. Until today (2021), there are 350 drop points from neighborhoods and schools that we have served. In 2019, we are able to distribute 361.57 tons of waste and this figure has increased from the year of 2018. We are committed to give the best services to the society because we are Surabaya Waste Bank, building collaboration to protect the environment
